Elleven in Old English is endleofan, and related back to an original Germanic *ainlif, “eleven.” *Ainlif is composed of *ain-, “one” and the suffix *-lif from the Germanic root *lib-, “to adhere, remain, remain left over.” Thus, eleven is literally “one-remaining.”
11 = 10 + 1. The “1” remaining stands for the individual. This is the metaphor for Elleven.
The individual who engage in a deeply intimate, yet calculated, dialogue with the human form informs the collection’s design philosophy. Elleven manipulates seemingly familiar constructions into unique forms that engage the body in subtle and diverse ways and assembled with an essence of order and poise that can be weaved into the rhythm of the wearer’s everyday life with effortless ease. Each piece is up to the wearer to interpret so that she/he can express their mood, or feeling at that particular moment, his/her visual voice.
Inspiration has been gathered and collected from seemingly ephemeral or fleeting moments and observations, and interpersonal gestures, but ones that stay eminently close to the senses.
Elleven unifies contrasting elements—delicate yet masculine, sophisticated, yet casual, and sensual yet utilitarian—to create a collection that is intelligent, simple, and without pretense.
